The city’s coastline stretches 307km along the West Coast, around the Cape Peninsula, along the Cape Flats Coast and around to the Kogelberg coast in the east. The coastline is made up of 101 beaches and consists of the warm Agulhas current sweeping down the east coast and the cold Benguela current flowing up the west coast.
